Still Life with Apples serves as a prototype for Cézanne's works from the late 1880s, wherein he deliberately investigates the ideal viewpoint to present various objects from multiple perspectives within a single piece of art. In doing so, he somewhat anticipated Cubism. His objects sometimes appear to float in the air.
